Dear Valued parents of Jurong centre,
It has been another exciting month in May for the children.
The K2 children discussed about the topic on ”transportation” and one of the hands on activities they did was to create their own vehicles using food using their imagination and creativity. We had a visitor who is an art teacher who came visting our centre, when she saw the variety of 3D artwork done by the children facilitated by the K2 teachers, she asked me, “are you sure this is not taught by the art enrichment teacher?”. She was clearly impressed with the quality of work.
We have some visitors for the K1 children. The dental nurses from the ministry of health came by and explained to the children the importance of keeping their teeth healthy. There were demonstrations for the children on how to brush their teeth the right way and songs were sang together with the children to reinforce the concept. Another group of visitors are the early childhood undergraduates from Wheelock College. They did an interesting drama for the K1 and K2 children and the children loved it so much that they could not stop talking about it in class.
Two of the interesting lessons the nursery group had is about straight lines and curve lines. The concepts were taught by the nursery teacher by letting the children have concrete experiences such as creating straight and curve line art and walking on straight and curve lines.
The playgroup children enjoyed concrete learning experiences too. One of the lessons they did was to make a dessert and colours were taught during the lesson. The toddlers had fun learning about senses and one of the lessons they had was to experience popcorn making. They were all excited when the popcorn “pops” and the concept of “I can hear” was reinforced during that lesson.
Please enjoy viewing the moments we had with your children in May 2010. We are looking forward to another exciting month in June.
Best Regards,
Mrs Cecilia Loh
